SOPHIENSAELE 2023

More than a sexual orientation or gender identification, these days queer suggests a defiant political proposition that another world is possible—a world without violence, oppression, or bigotry. How such a world would work or look like is supposed to be modelled in the undercommons of the queer community. But what kinds of actions, relations, and structures help this undercommons come into existence? And who is doing this labor of prefiguring this alternative way of being and coming together, under what conditions, and how are they rewarded for it? When the crisis of the cost of living is disproportionately affecting queer and disabled folks living in non-traditional arrangements, can we even afford queer relations committed to keeping the radical imagination alive? These are the questions driving our second zine issue, Social Pleasure Social Reproduction, to be launched via a 2-day gesamtkunstwerq program at SOPHIENSÆLE as part of the Leisure & Pleasure Festival.
